What is Screen Printing? Screen printing is a
process that uses an image stenciled on a tightly stretched
screen. The screen is placed onto of your substrate (what you are
printing onto) and Ink is filled onto the screen. A squeege
is used to pull the ink across where it passes through the stencil and
onto your substrate. For multiple colors, the process is repeated
with a different screen (and different ink color). For
shading, half-tones are used. Half tones create the illusion of
shading & gradients by converting shades into a series of dots.
The dots frequency will dictate the shade. The more dots in an
area, the darker it will be. By blending half-tones
of different colors together you can create the illusion of more colors
than you have laid down.

What is Screen Printing Used For?
Screen printing is arguably the most versatile of all printing processes. It can be used to print on a wide variety of substrates, including paper, paperboard, plastics, glass, metals,
cotton, nylon & other fabrics, and many other materials. Some common products from the screen printing industry include posters, labels, decals, signage, and all types of textiles and electronic circuit boards. The advantage of
screen printing over other print processes is that the press can print on substrates of any shape, thickness and size.

Should I Screen Print? Not all designs are suitable
for screen printing. Color photographs require process color printing, and
results in a less than desirable printed image. We do not recommend screen
printing full color images.

When considering screen printing, take a
close look at your artwork. How many colors are required to make your
image work? Do the colors interact (mix) ? If you are printing one
or two colors, generally screen printing will always be the most cost effective
way to print on fabrics. If you are not sure whether or not your artwork
will transfer as a screen print, please send us a copy of it for us to
review.
